As the use of the ipad grows so do apps that help children with autism, many of which help them to communicate. Children who were once non verbal or who had tantrums to communicate are now making sentences with the help of technology. With the use of an ipad or ipod the the focus can now be on using the child’s motivation to communicate rather than focusing on the vocal output of speech.
I have used some apps like Proloque2Go with several of my students but I know that because of the price this is not always an option for parents who must pay of of pocket for everything from medical bills to therapy and everything in between. Which apps have you found most helpful in teaching your child to communicate, which apps are the best to teach math or reading, and most importantly which are your child’s most favorite apps. I am also curious about which ipad cases you are using and if you recommend them.

My 7 yr son was recently hooked unto an IPad with ProloQuo to go and his language is exploding, he also benefits from being able to “program” and make his own pages.
I always thought about getting this app for him but the cost was a big factor. If I knew it would work, I would have gotten it a while ago, but I didn’t want a 200 dollar app that was useless.
My son responds to almost anything on IPad. It is a format that really reaches him.
