Types of Prompts

by Lisa

Prompts can either be response prompts or stimulus prompts. Response prompts include modeling, verbal instructions, and physical guidance. Stimulus prompts include movement, position and redundancy. A response prompt that is a verbal instruction can either be vocal or non vocal. Non vocal verbal instructions include written words, pictures, or signs.

Prompts can be used to teach someone to match colors to colors or to help a person swing a golf club better. Also you will often you will hear the term prompt when someone is doing a discrete trial.
